Nights of Lights Brings Holiday Magic

The historic city of Saint Augustine will officially launch its’ holiday season tonight during the opening of the Annual Nights of Lights display along the bayfront. Imagine the effect of over 3 million tiny white lights twinkling in the night illuminating the entire downtown area including the Plaza, the Bridge of Lions, the City Hall building and gardens.

It is an amazing site that was created in honor of the classic Spanish tradition of burning a single white candle in the window during the holiday season. The lights decorate the downtown area from November 17th through January and you can enjoy tours by trolley, horse drawn carriage, a cruise along the bayfront… or just take a stroll among the lights. Last year, National Geographic declared the Nights of Lights in Saint Augustine to be one of the top ten places in the world to view holiday lights! Saint Augustine Supports Artists

If you are a lover of art, you will find that the Saint Augustine community has a lot to offer you. The streets of historic downtown are home to many amazing and diverse galleries where you can view all varieties of artistic talent – from painting to carving to custom jewelry and crafts. The Art Walk is a popular monthly event held the first Friday evening of every month with special gallery showings and live music. Arts and crafts are part of many of the festivals held throughout the year.

The Saint Augustine Beach House proudly displays the works of local artists at our oceanfront hotel. When you visit, please stop the hotel to see some of the amazing paintings, photographs, and colorful carvings of fish and sea turtles, all done by a incredibly talented local artists. Book Festival Coming in September

The Saint Augustine Beach House is proud to support the Florida Heritage Book Festival & Writer’s Conference, which is scheduled for September 13th through 15th. If you are a lover of great writing and good books, or an aspiring author yourself - plan to attend this event.

Best selling authors will be on hand for book signings and readings and some great presentations and workshops are on the schedule. This annual event is a great celebration of the best of Florida writers and literary heritage. Stop by – and be inspired!

Celebrating the Sunset – Vilano Beach Style!

Viewing a sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean from Vilano Beach is always an amazing experience. But watching the sun set behind the beautiful cityscape of historic Saint Augustine is also a memorable site! The Vilano Pier at the west end of Vilano Road makes the perfect spot for taking in a sunset.

It’s therefore also a great place to hold the Vilano Sunset Celebration, hosted by the community on the first Saturday of every month starting at 3:00 p.m.. The Vilano Pier is transformed into a waterside street fair complete with arts and crafts vendors, local musicians and artists, and sample fare from area restaurants. The Saint Augustine Beach House participates in the monthly event by hosting a booth and a drawing for a complimentary night’s stay at our oceanfront, pet friendly hotel.

The Vilano Beach mascot – the classic ‘bluebird of happiness’ that has welcomed Vilano visitors for generations - has now been carefully perched at the Pier entrance pavilion. It serves as the finishing touch on a truly unique and colorful venue for an evening stroll and a waterfront party. Plan to visit during the next event on August 4th at the VIlano Pier – and share in the celebration of a Vilano sunset! (Don’t forget to stop by our booth to get acquainted!)

Hotel Earns 2012 TRIPADVISOR Certificate of Excellence

The Saint Augustine Beach House is proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2012 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. The award is given only when a hotel consistently achieves outstanding traveler reviews on the TripAdvisor travel website, and only about 10 percent of listed businesses qualify for the honor.

TripAdvisor is a travel planning website that posts reviews and offers advice from travelers about accommodations, restaurants and attractions worldwide. A hotel must maintain an overall ranking of four or higher out of a possible five, as rated by their guest reviews, to achieve the award.

It is especially rewarding to all of us at The Beach House to know that the honor is earned through positive feedback from our guests. When we know that our customers have had an enjoyable experience and plan to return, we can feel confident our efforts to consistently maintain a high level of quality and service are headed in the right direction. Landscape Art in Full Bloom at The Beach House

The vibrant colors and wide variety of natural Florida plant life is now on display in our oceanfront garden at The Beach House. Thanks to the skills of local landscape artist, Tammy Burghart, the new showcase of flowers, shrubs, cactus and palm forms the perfect natural complement to the amazing ocean views we enjoy in Vilano Beach.

Our local climate can present unique gardening challenges, so Tammy brought in Florida native, drought-tolerant plants which thrive more easily in a beachside environment. Combining her creativity and experience, Tammy incorporated over fifty different plants in the design of The Beach House gardens, creating an inviting natural display that fits in perfectly with our eco-friendly renovation plans at The Saint Augustine Beach House.
